How to Make Healthy Almond Milk & Avoid Toxic Seed Oils

One of my main health goals is to make the majority of my food and drinks from scratch.

This is a great way to ensure I am not accumulating excess toxicity in my body from processed, chemically enhanced foods, that claim to be “healthy" or “all-natural”.

One of my favorite morning rituals is to make my own homemade almond milk, using just four simple ingredients.

1. The video below shows my step-by-step process to make simple and healthy homemade almond milk.

Another reason I have been motivated to make my own dairy-free milk is because most milk alternatives you buy from the grocery store contain toxic vegetable oils (used as an emulsifier).

These highly processed, industrialized seed oils cause oxidative stress in our body and are extremely harmful to our cells.

2. There is also more info below about unhealthy vegetable oils and how to avoid them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of almonds

  • 2-3 mejool dates

  • 1.5 cups of filtered water

  • a splash of vanilla

use a nut-milk bag or a cheese cloth to strain the mixture

Instructions:

  1. Soak the almonds in water (preferably overnight).

  2. Combine the soaked almonds, dates, filtered water, and vanilla extract into the blender.

  3. Blend until smooth.

  4. Place blended mixture into a nut-milk bag or a cheese cloth.

  5. Strain the mixture.

  6. Enjoy!

Plant Milk

Dairy free milk alternatives (“Plant Milks”) have become very popular dairy substitutes - oat, almond, coconut, and macadamia just to name a few. These products claim to be healthier than dairy.

But, have you ever taken the time to look at the ingredients of the milk alternative you buy from the grocery store?

Many of these products are filled with filler ingredients, additives, and sugar. But most concerning is the presence of harmful seed oils .

What are Industrial Seed Oils?

Seed oils are highly processed and refined vegetable oils that are extremely toxic to our body.

These industrial oils contain linoleic acid, which is an adulterated omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA). Linoleic acid is unstable and oxidizes (breaks down) in our body after cooking with the bad fat and then consumption. This causes oxidative stress and inflammation in our body at a cellular level.

Vegetable Oil Consumption = Cellular Dysfunction!

Adverse Effects of Seed Oil Consumption

  • Inflammation in the body

  • Autoimmune issues

  • Insulin resistance (which leads to weight gain and diabetes)

  • Brain fog

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Heart Disease

  • An accumulation of toxicity in your body fat

*** (These are the negative health effects that have motivated me to avoid them at all cost!)

Toxic Vegetable Oils (Seed Oils) to Avoid

Remove these toxic oils from your diet now!

  • Canola, Corn, Soybean, Cottonseed, Peanut, Safflower, Sunflower, Grapeseed, and Rice Bran Oils.

Unfortunately, seed oils are everywhere. Next time you go grocery shopping, I highly recommend taking a few extra minutes to review the ingredients before you put something in the cart - you will quickly notice just how prominent seed oils have become. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t healthy alternatives.

This is why I started making my own Almond Milk (something that I use and consume every day)…now I know exactly what is in my milk alternative, and making it is part of my healthy morning ritual!

I hope you try this recipe and enjoy feeling at peace knowing you aren’t consuming over-processed vegetable oils from the milk alternatives that claim to be “healthy” for you.
