Do you Burn Sugar or Fat for Energy?

When fasting, we want to be in a FAT BURNING STATE (ketosis)

This is when our body burns fat instead of sugar (glucose)…We finally experience mental clarity, anti-aging benefits, weight loss, and better energy levels!

So, how do you know if you are primarily burning fat or sugar for energy?

You are a sugar burner while fasting if…

  • you get easily fatigued/lethargic

  • you crave sugar and refined carbohydrates

  • you get “hangry” without food

  • you can not lose weight

How do we get into a fat burning state (ketosis)?

  1. Eliminate all SUGAR & REFINED CARBOHYDRATES from your diet.

  2. DURING YOUR FASTING WINDOW:

    • Take a healthy fat: MCT oil, ghee, coconut oil - put it in your morning drink or take it by itself.

  3. DURING YOUR EATING WINDOW:

    • Break your Fast with a clean protein and a healthy fat. This is important because we are insulin sensitive after fasting. Remember to avoid all sugar and refined carbohydrates!

Here is an example of my morning drink with MCT Oil (mct = medium chain triglyceride). This type of healthy fat has helped me get into ketosis and finally burn fat instead of sugar. I noticed increased energy levels, mental clarity, decreased inflammation and I am finally losing weight!
